The Mission of Susan Hensel Gallery is to Communicate, Change and Share
Communicate stories using all the senses and and any media, using art to transform personal experience into universal understanding.
Susan Hensel Gallery is a gallery/ workspace presenting 5-6 shows per year devoted to the concept of narrative in the arts in an intimate space, with hardwood floors and high tin ceilings. It is the belief of Susan Hensel that humans are a "storymaking species" who will always seek, find or provide a story for any experience. It is the intent of Susan Hensel Design to provide experiences to stretch and test the storymaking impulse.The gallery is open to the public during receptions and by generous appointments. WISH YOU WERE HERE: The Great Family Vacation Show, A Reading Saturday, February 17th, 7pmTALKING IMAGE CONNECTION returns with original writing and performance. Jim Coppoc, Geoff Herbach, Haley Lasche, Beth Mayer, Ace Moore and Alison Morse unpack stories and poems about the famous oxymoron, the family vacation, IN RESPONSE TO MIKE ELKO'S MULTI-MEDIA EXHIBIT,"WE DROVE, WE SAW, WE ATE." This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6pm. About the writers:JIM COPPOC is an award-winning teacher, writer, and performer, and Lecturer in English at Iowa State University. In addition to his creative and scholarly efforts, Coppoc has spent most of his life exploring the many media ofperformance art, having worked as musician, actor, stand-up comic, network radio D.J., and performance poet. Coppoc has published poetry, fiction, nonfiction, history and criticism in dozens of literary journals and anthologies, including The Cortland Review, Barbaric Yawp, Tryst, the Poetry21 supplement to The Wadsworth Anthology of Poetry, and The Best of Chicago Poetry. Coppoc's first full-length book of poems, Blood, Sex & Prayer, was published by Fractal Edge Press in the summer of 2005, and he is currently revising the manuscript for Reliquary, a book of flash nonfiction due out in 2007. GEOFF HERBACH has an MFA from Hamline University. Recent work has appeared in Bathtub Gin, an Anthology called Worker's Write and American Nerd. He has told stories on MPR and is a founding member of The Lit 6 Project, which is in the midst of its 2007 season at the Ritz Theater. He has also written a new novel, Saint Rimberg. HALEY LASCHÃ is a graduate student at Hamline University and a founding member of West Egg Literati. She has been on the steering committees of two college based literary magazines and has worked on Water~Stone Review as a student editor. She writes primarily poetry and criticism and has had poetry published in the mnartists.org and Magers & Quinn series What Light: a poem a week. In addition to her literary career, she is a college instructor, a professional post-modern dancer, and a punk rock fashion model. BETH MAYER's work has appeared in The Sun, The Threepenny Review and The Journal of Graduate of Liberal Studies. She is an MFA candidate at Hamline University, where she has served on the editorial board of the Water~Stone Review. Beth lives in Lakeville with her family and is currently working on a collection of short stories about relative courage. ACE MOORE is currently in the MFA Program at Hamline University. His prose and poetry have appeared in such publications as Wandering Hermit Review, Pearl, Spleen Quarterly and Point No Point as well as in the anthologies Jack Straw Writers Program 2000, Vox Populi and Nobody's Orphan Child. His words have been heard on the radio at KUOW in Seattle and Valley Voices in Michigan. He lives with his wife, Meghan, and son, Xavier, in various locations throughout western Wisconsin and Saint Paul. ALISON MORSE's poetry and prose have appeared in Water~Stone, Mix and on facets-magazine.com. Her novel, The Beethoven Frieze, won the 2006 Outstanding Fiction Thesis Award from Hamline University. TALKINGIMAGECONNECTION, or TIC, is an organization that connects emerging poets and writers with adventurous visual artists. A talkingimageconnection reading is designed to make adventurous conceptual art more accessible to everybody. Laugh-out-loud storytelling and bold or lyric language can connect audiences to artwork in new, exciting ways. TIC readings have been held at The Susan Hensel Gallery, The Soap Factory, The Frank Stone Gallery, and the SooVac Visual Arts Center. Check out TIC's website at www.talkimage.org
