Sue's Musings and News

May 2003

Summer Classes Posted

Sunday Afternoon in Sue's Studio continues. Come spend time in my cool basement learning some basic skills and having fun. We will be making a pocket-sized hardbound book using some short cuts; carving soft blocks for printmaking; make a long stitch photo album and we will have our annual paste paper extravaganza in the garage at the end of August.Check out the date times and full descriptions.

Progress on the Desire Project

Intense work continues onDesire project. I plan to finish the mixed media drawings by the end of June. The DESIRE project deals with the subjects of desire, gender, eroticism and age. Erotic, but not pornographic, it examines desire, fecundity, birth, growth, age, death, expectation, anticipation and the social/cultural body. The book experienced alone, will allow not only privacy, but secrecy. With the ultimate installation, I will expose the secrecy in a public environment, conflating the intimate experience of desire with a public interaction. The dissonance of individually considering these beautiful drawings of private emotional states by displaying, spotlighting and reading the book in a public installation should highlight and publicize the cultural experience of waning desirability and waning power of the aging body, creating a stunningly beautiful, but somewhat uncomfortable experience. New images are on the Desire project page. Desire, copyright Susan Hensel

New Web Elements and More to come

At long last, I have added a Links page.
Little by little I stumble my way through this HTML-STUFF! At this point I have put links for the artists who participated in this year's Reader's Art 3. I have also linked the movies of the opening and the show itself.

I have added a new page for the War Chest Series. This was a group of assemblages that were made in response to the first Persian Gulf War. Most read like books, many with internal pages. While two are now gone, I intend to keep the rest together as a unique work of art. The pieces have shown from coast to coast and have won multiple awards. I forsee the possibilty of them morphing into the centerpiece of a full scale installation.

A new addition to the Narrative Sculpture page. The Parable of Flight, a 48 inch, lighted wing sculpture has been added. Be sure to check the detail link for a special offer.

The Journals page has been removed for maintenance...All right...I admit it, I blew it! I somehow erased it! I was planning to re-build it anyhow. Check back soon.

In the future watch for a shopping cart and a sale page. Some of our standard papers will soon be unavailable , so we will be running close-outs some of the journal options.
